Louisa Beal DVM

Louisa Beal, DVM, has been a respected voice in veterinary behavior for decades, with a career that began well before behavior became a formalized specialty within the field. After earning her veterinary degree from Washington State University in 1984, she pursued advanced training through externships with leading pioneers in animal behavior, including Victoria Voith, Peter Borchelt, and Katherine Houpt—an experience that helped shape her thoughtful, forward-thinking approach to behavioral medicine.
In 1986, Louisa founded Brown’s Point Veterinary Clinic, where she spent a decade practicing both general medicine and behavior. She later shared her knowledge as an instructor in the Veterinary Assistant program at Renton Technical College and became a sought-after speaker on low-stress, fear-free veterinary care and behavior. Throughout her career, she has remained deeply engaged in the practical application of behavior science, including training and competing with her own dogs in obedience and canine musical freestyle.
Now retired from seeing clients directly, Louisa continues to contribute her expertise as part of Another Approach Behavior Solutions. In her current role, she provides peer-to-peer veterinary consultation, collaborating with referring veterinarians to offer thoughtful, case-by-case guidance on the use of behavioral medication when appropriate.
Louisa’s longstanding commitment to humane, evidence-based care and her early dedication to behavior as a core component of veterinary medicine continue to inform her work today—supporting both the Another Approach team and the clients they serve behind the scenes.
